Ahead of the canonisation of Cardinal John Henry Newman on Sunday, Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin spoke at the Irish College in Rome about the Saint’s relevance in Ireland today.
“It is no longer financially sustainable or prudent for the diocese to retain a property of this size and scale, which is no longer fit for its purposes”.
Symposium will include presentations by John Waters on ‘Taking us Back to the Father’, Rev Ginnie Kennerley on ‘The Family Today: Healing and Expansion in Christ’, and Nick Park on ‘Modern Family – Ancient Problems’.
According to Dublin diocesan archivist, Noelle Dowling, some of the material on display on Friday night includes photographs and letters of thanks and appreciation from Vietnam, which suffered devastation during 20 years of war from 1955 until 1975.
