New Bishop of Achonry hailed as "the kind of personable, informal bishop who will be close to the people and lead them through a process of mutual listening, consultation and discernment."

"As we face the future, we must remember that the Lord who called us, whom we surrendered to on the day of our ordination, the Lord who placed His hands upon our head, that same Lord is calling us now!" – Bishop Dempsey.

A “gifted communicator”, the new bishop has served as Diocesan Youth Director and Director of Vocations and has hosted a successful religious affairs programme on KFM Radio and written a regular column in the Leinster Leader.

“Prayer led him to peace and trust and to the confidence that the past was in safe hands and the future was also in safe hands. God had turned his wounds into wisdom” – Bishop Martin Drennan.

Those gathered came to “salute, to pray for and to remember the men and women of 1916” – Bishop Brendan Kelly.
