Since 1976, Sr Mary Killeen has introduced education, health, and community services programmes to the slums of Mukuru in Nairobi, helping over 170,000 people to become self-sustainable.

Irish missionary, Sr Mary Sweeney, established St Joseph’s School for the Hearing Impaired in Sierra Leone and has given education, skills training and life opportunities to children with a disability in a developing country.

Sr Mary Sweeney, a Sister of St Joseph of Cluny and a native of Dungloe in Co Donegal, named for her role in coordinating a response to the Ebola epidemic in Sierra Leone.

“The support and kindness they provided to the friends of our children as they came to terms with this tragedy is limitless."

Irish missionary presently works with Hands of Care & Hope project in the slums of Nairobi assisting out of school youth and those living with HIV.
