"For the safety of our parishioners, pilgrims, visitors, staff, volunteers and priests, Knock Shrine has taken the unprecedented and heart-breaking decision to close the Shrine and grounds for the 15th August only,” said Father Richard Gibbons, Rector, Knock.
Archbishop Rino Fisichella gave the keynote address at the Co Mayo shrine for the Feast of the Assumption.
The new processional statue will be formally unveiled later this month as part of events to mark the 140th anniversary of the Knock apparitions in 1879.
