Two job vacancies in the Archdiocese of Dublin

There are two job vacancies in the Archdiocese of Dublin: one for a parish sacristan in Monkstown Parish and the other for a health care co-ordinator in the Archdiocese of Dublin.

The role of parish sacristan in Monkstown Parish is offered initially on a one-year, fixed-term, part-time basis. The role is to provide a high level of support to the parish priest and parish team in the general running of the parish for approximately six days a week.

Duties include preparing the altar for daily mass(es) and other liturgical services such as weddings, funerals and baptisms; opening and closing the church at agreed times; ordering altar and cleaning products; ensuring the church is maintained to a high standard and bringing maintenance requirements to the attention of the parish priest.

The ideal candidate should have a track record of reliability and a flexible approach, working in a team environment with strong interpersonal skills and experience dealing with the public.

Knowledge of the Catholic Church and its liturgical rituals would also be desirable. Applications should be made to Fr Kevin Rowan, Parish Office, Monkstown Parish, Carrickbrennan Road, Monkstown, Co. Dublin, enclosing a curriculum vitae and cover letter no later than Friday 21 February 2020.

There is also an opening for a health care co-ordinator in the Catholic Archdiocese of Dublin to provide assistance to the priest with pastoral responsibility for sick and retired priests of the diocese. The role is being offered on a permanent, full-time basis for 35 hours per week.

Current responsibilities include reporting to the priest with pastoral responsibility for sick and retired priests of the diocese; visiting priests and in conjunction with their line manager developing care plans; liaising with the HSE regarding support services such as home care, occupational therapy and public health nursing services as well applications for full-time care; advising priests on their medical entitlements and services available; providing, organising and delivering health care seminars for the priests of the diocese; liaising with other Diocesan Offices in support of sick and senior priests where necessary; and accompanying priests to hospital and clinic appointments as is necessary.

The successful candidate will be a qualified, registered health care professional with a minimum of five years’ experience. They will also possess a particular capacity for working with the elderly and have post-graduate qualifications and experience in this area. They will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be empathetic to the ethos and philosophy of the diocese, have a driving licence and use of a car (essential), be able to work flexible hours, and have the ability to take initiative and work as part of a team.
