Judas:
Very little is told us in the New Testament concerning the history of Judas beyond these facts: His birthplace: Iscariot,
His call to the apostolate: Jesus personally called him to be close follower,
His role as bursar, balancing the finances of Jesus’ ministry,
His loss of faith in Jesus: Jesus showed little interest in raising a rebellion against the Romans and re-establishing an independent kingdom of Israel
His betrayal with a kiss of affection
His despair and his suicide-death.: Judas saw the result of his actions and “was seized with remorse and fear”
His dependence on himself alone for justification. This was his big mistake
Judas was most likely to say: We are never as good as the good things we do.
Peter :
has a well filled our personality profile, complete with his faults and failings.
Whatever his faults were: Peter never gave up on Jesus, God’s compassion, forgiveness and miracles.
Mistakes: He made many but always repented.
Lost trust: in himself and Jesus at times but not for very long.
He learned to forgive himself: pick himself up, dust himself down and start again
He bore witness with his life to Jesus’ – even dying in Jesus’ name and cause.
His focus remained on Jesus love : not on his own efforts.
Peter was most likely to say: We are never as bad as the bad things we do or say.
