Bishop Philip Boyce of Raphoe has been confirmed as a speaker for this year’s International Fota Liturgy Conference in Cork.

The overall theme of Fota VII, which will take place from 5-7 July, is ‘Agens in Persona Christi: Aspects of the Ministerial Priesthood.’

Bishop Boyce will address the conference on the subject of ‘The Priest as Intercessor with Special Reference to the Writings of Blessed John Henry Newman.’

Other speakers include Dr Andrea Bellandi of Florence who will discuss ‘The Christological Context for the Priest of the Third Millennium: Its Meaning and Significance’; while Professor Dieter Böhler SJ, of St Georgen in Frankfurt will speak about ‘Levi’s Temple Service and the Messiah according to Luke.’

In past years, the Fota Liturgy Conference has been opened by Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke, Prefect of the Signatura Apostolica and addressed delegates on subjects such as Ius Divinum and the Sacred Liturgy.

He has also acted as the main celebrant for High Mass and Vespers at St Peter and Paul’s Church in Cork, which are an integral part of the conference.

Professor Emeritus of moral theology at Maynooth, Dr Vincent Twomey, is the conference chairman.
