Baptising children

30 November, 1999

Isn’t it best to let children make up their own mind about religious things when they are old enough rather than baptise babies?

You want what’s best for your child. There are many things in life that we choose what is best for our children before they are old enough to make their own choices. The dedication of our child to God is one of those things.

Traditionally the Catholic Church has baptised children, brought them into the Church, and acknowledged them as part of God’s family.

Your son or daughter will eventually make his or her own mind up as to whether they want to remain part of the Church when they are old enough. Infant baptism does not rob a child of adult free choice.
