Advent Moments: Week 3, Wed

waiting for God

Wednesday of the Third  Week of Advent 17-12-14

Gospel: Matthew 1:1
An account of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Reflection: Waiting in Hope

The people of Israel waited for years.
The gospel lists generations and ancestors.
Did they tire of waiting, as we may do sometimes?
We can get tired of waiting for God:
waiting for his closeness in our lives,
angry at him for the rough deals of life.
Or we wonder why he cannot make peace overnight.

“All human wisdom is summed up in two words - wait and hope” - Alexandre Dumas Père

The church makes the Advent prayer — ‘delay no more’. We want fullness of life or peace of mind, and we want it now. Can we make this prayer with faith and trust, aware we don’t know how God gives us peace and when, and aware also that much of our unhappiness in life is caused by the greed and selfishness of others? With faith in God, urgency from within our needs and with trust in God we wait in hope.

Come, Lord Jesus, into our emptiness,
Come into our poverty and dependency,
Come with your word of joy.

Please offer a prayer today for :
those who are in need of our prayers,
those in hosptal :
waiting for an operation, or the results of proceedures
,
those in court, waiting for trial or sentence,
those in poverty waiting for a sign of hope.
