Corpus Christi primary school in Moyross is launching a pioneering legacy project as part of its celebrations marking the school’s thirtieth anniversary.

‘The Sky is the Limit’ will provide the parents and every child beginning Junior Infants in autumn 2015 with the assistance of a psychologist.

The project is to follow the child through the primary cycle in a bid to make sure each child reaches its full potential.

According to Fr Tony O’Riordan, who chairs the school’s board of management, and is parish priest in Moyross, the psychologists are giving their time voluntarily.

In recent weeks the school has been meeting potential parents and trying to identify what are the barriers to the child’s development and how can they be addressed to make sure the child gets as far as possible.

The 44-year-old Jesuit explained, “If those children can look back in 30 years’ time and say 2015 was a very significant year in my life because of this project then I think that as an old man I will be very happy.”

Speaking to CatholicIreland.net, Fr O’Riordan said one of his priorities since arriving in Moyross has been the school community.

He said he has worked with the teachers, board of management and the parents because he believes one of the major areas that needs to be addressed is the education and development of children.

He said that thanks to a team effort in Moyross a major impact had been made on school attendances and behaviours at the DEIS school.

“This is reflected in measurable literacy and numeracy outcomes where many of our children by first and second class are at or above the national averages scores across the country,” he said.
