The Call to Reform Series with Brendan Comerford SJ @ Manresa Jesuit Centre of Spirituality
Oct 5 @ 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm
The Call to Reform Series with Brendan Comerford SJ @ Manresa Jesuit Centre of Spirituality | Dublin | County Dublin | Ireland

Five hundred years after Martin Luther’s call to reform in 1517, Christian life remains significantly influenced by him and his contemporaries of 500 years ago.

This series of talks will treat of calls to reform and spiritual renewal within the Roman Catholic Church itself and also among groups which were considered heretical prior to Martin Luther – groups such as The Lollards; the Waldensians and the Hussites. It will then concentrate on the life, spirituality and theology of Desiderius Erasmus and Martin Luther, in particular. Some mention will be made of John Calvin and Ulrich Zwingli. Finally, we will look to see how historically accurate it is to judge Saints Ignatius Loyola and Pierre Favre as Counter-Reformation figures.

Asking what faith, prayer and dialogue meant to figures such as Ignatius of Loyola, Teresa of Ávila, Erasmus and Luther can inspire us as we face similar questions in our time and help us in living reflective and conscientious Christian lives.

No booking required.

The sex revolution; how it succeeded, why it’s failing -Dr Glynn Harrison-Davenport hotel @ Davanport Hotel.
Oct 10 @ 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm

THE topic of our next talk will be the ramifications of the sex revolution, the most powerful and influential social revolution in recent history. It has brought about radical and far-reaching changes in our attitudes to sex, marriage and gender. What is the secret of the sexual revolution’s cultural power? Is it delivering on its promises? And in this challenging context, how can the broader Christian Church engage with society in ways that win hearts as well as minds?

The topic will be addressed by Dr Glynn Harrison, former Professor and Head of Department of Psychiatry, University of Bristol, where he was also a practicing Consultant Psychiatrist. He now speaks widely on issues at the interface between Christian faith and psychology, pastoral ministry and psychiatry. His new book ‘A Better Story: God, sex and human flourishing’ is published by IVP/SPCK’.

How we killed God-a talk-John Waters and David Quinn-Galway @ Menlo Park Hotel
Nov 21 @ 8:00 pm

WE ARE very pleased to invite you to our next talk which will be given by commentator and author, John Waters, and columnist and head of The Iona Institute, David Quinn.

John and David will discuss how ‘Official Ireland’ is ruthlessly pushing all consideration of God to the margins of Irish life. Christians are allowed no place in public debate, and God is rarely spoken of in public any more. So far as Irish public life is concerned, we have effectively ‘killed’ God. Except we cannot do that of course, so we do the next best thing; we pretend he is ‘dead’.

John and David will talk about the consequences of this, about how it has played out in Irish life over the last twenty-five years, and what we can do about it. David will draw on his forthcoming book, also called ‘How we kill God (and other tales of modern Ireland)’, which is a selection of his columns from 1994 to the present.

John was for many years a national newspaper columnist. He wrote for The Irish Times, The Irish Daily Mail and The Irish and Sunday Independents.

He is the author of numerous books including Jiving at the Crossroads; An Intelligent Person’s Guide to Modern Ireland; Lapsed AgnosticBeyond Consolation: or How We Became Too Clever for God… and Our Own Good; and Was it for this? Why Ireland lost the plot.

David is currently a columnist with The Sunday Times and The Irish Catholic. He has previously been a columnist with The Irish Independent and The Sunday Business Post.

‘Bright Friday’ is a free event which will be held in University Church on St Stephen’s Green, Dublin from 2-7pm and will be have periods of reflective music, mindfulness meditations and poetry readings.

Mark Patrick Hederman OSB,
JohnWaters
and a number of musicians and choirs.

Author of Surprised by Fire, Martina Lehane Sheehan will conclude the day with a candlelit mindfulness meditation.

According to her new book modern research in psychology shows that “our externals can only contribute to our happiness by 10 % (what we buy, what we own etc). Yet we chase it – especially on Black Friday!

“Approx 50% of our happiness levels are determined by genetic inheritance and 40 % is in our own control… (attitudes, beliefs, etc.). It’s the 40% solution.”

All welcome to drop in for part or all of the day.

ENCIRCLING IRELAND WITH A HUMAN ROSARY-A new prayer initiative-Nov 26 @ Coast of Ireland, Europe
Nov 26 @ 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Please see information below and attached on the Rosary on the Coast for Life and Faith in Ireland, hopefully you will be able to take part and spread the word as much as possible…

ROSARY ON THE COAST IRELAND…..HOW TO GET INVOLVED

On Sunday 26 November 2017, the Feast of Christ the King, at 2:30pm, we are going to the coasts of Ireland to pray the Rosary for the Preservation of Faith in Ireland and the Protection of Life in Ireland .

ENCIRCLING IRELAND WITH A HUMAN ROSARY: Ideally we will have a minimum of 53 locations around the coast for the Hail Marys in a Rosary. If we have more, that’s even better. If you can’t travel to a coastal location then it would be great if people could gather at any location in Ireland to take part.

HOW YOU CAN HELP…ORGANISE A LOCATION: We are calling on Bishops, Priests, individual lay faithful, friends, prayer groups, apostolates, etc to select locations that they will travel to on the day. We are working on Our Lord’s Word that ‘where two or three gathered’, Christ our King and Mary our Queen will be there. But don’t worry once your location is on the list Our Lady will bring more!

SEND US YOUR LOCATION…..be very precise
email [email protected] or TEXT or CALL 0872786552 or message us on our facebook page called ‘Rosary on the Coast for Life and Faith Ireland’ where you can also view an updated list of locations already planned. Website: https://www.coastalrosaryireland.ie

Please see attachments for further information and for distribution as much as possible.
