Cisterian Vocations Weekend-Lismore @ St Mary's Abbey
Feb 9 @ 7:30 pm – Feb 11 @ 3:30 pm

Who we are

St Mary’s Abbey, Glencairn is the only Cistercian monastery for women in Ireland. Our monastery is located in the Blackwater Valley, about three miles upstream from Lismore, County Waterford.

At the heart of the monastic life is the search for God.  We seek God and follow Christ in a life of prayer and community, solitude and simplicity, work and hospitality.

We follow the Rule of St Benedict, an ancient source of monastic wisdom that continues to guide many people in search of an authentic spiritual path in today’s world.

Event

We invite women who are considering God’s call to join us for a weekend to get to know more about monastic way of life. Our life is one of witness in a life of prayer, work, community and contempaltion.

Meet a sister for a one to one chat about your vocation discernment and take some quiet time for an encounter with God.

Participants stay as our guests in our Abbey guesthouse, there is no cost for the weekend.  To those who are relying on public transport to travel to Glencairn from Dublin or Cork via Bus Eireann X8 we can offer a transport to the monastery if pre-arranged.

If you would like to join us for this Vocations Weekend, please contact Sr Sarah at 058 56168 Ext. 6 or email: [email protected] for more information.

Our lives can be fragmented by the challenges of stressful living. Sacred Dance can help bring about a greater integration and harmony between heart, body, mind and spirit. With its roots in the European classical and folk-dance traditions, dancing in circles to beautiful and inspiring music can help develop a sense of community and offer moments of deep inner stillness and peace. Dancing circles can be inclusive, enjoyable – and fun!

Seeing with new eyes @ Manresa Jesuit Centre of Spirituality
Mar 6 @ 7:30 pm
Seeing with new eyes @ Manresa Jesuit Centre of Spirituality | Dublin | County Dublin | Ireland

Images and imagination were important to Ignatius of Loyola; he invited people to engage fully with Scripture scenes and drew throughout his life on strong personal inspirations. Colm Brophy draws on his training in Ignatian spirituality and as an art therapist in these evenings in helping participants to reflect on images that are important to them. If you are ready to take a fresh look at favourite images and how images reflect your inner experience and then go on to reflect on your images of God, these evenings may be of help.
You do not need the skills of an artist but simply a relationship with the visual. Although we communicate verbally, most of our inner life – like sacred mysteries – cannot be put into words.
Places are limited. Please register your interest by phone or web before 1 March.

Save the 8th Rally – Parnell Square, Dublin1, -Charlie Fien is a Down syndrome activist
Mar 10 @ 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm

8th Rally.

A 22 year old woman with Down syndrome who has previously addressed the UN will speak at a massive Save the 8th Rally this Saturday March 10th.

Tens of thousands are expected to march in support of retaining the 8th Amendment and protecting the lives of unborn children in Ireland.

Charlie Fien is a Down syndrome activist who recently gave an impassioned plea to the United Nations in March 2017 where she spoke out against the targeted killing of children diagnosed with Down syndrome before birth.

“I am not suffering,” Ms. Fien told the UN body in Geneva. “I am not ill. None of my friends who have Down’s syndrome are suffering either. We live happy lives.”

“We just have an extra chromosome,” she added. “We are still human beings. We are not monsters. Don’t be afraid of us. … Please don’t try to kill us all off.”

The United Nations delegates responded by giving her a standing ovation. Organisers of the Save the 8th Rally say they expect her to receive the same support and welcome in Ireland.

Speaking on behalf of Save the 8th Niamh Ui Bhriain said ”For the next 11 weeks our message will be focused on ensuring that the Irish people vote no to abortion. One of the heartbreaking facts we seen emerging from Britain is that 90% of babies with Down syndrome are aborted before birth and Charlie Fien’s message is hugely important at this time.”

85 parents and individuals living with a disability have signed an open letter saying that the voices of people with disabilities need to be heard in the debate around the 8th Amendment.

The Save the 8th Rally is taking place this Saturday 10th March at 2pm at Parnell Square Dublin.

Rosary at the Mass rocks for Life and Faith @ Mass Rocks and Ancient Monastic Sites around Ireland
Mar 18 @ 2:30 pm – 3:15 pm

In November over 30,000 Irish People gathered at our coasts to pray the rosary to preserve Life & Faith in Ireland. Now we turn to our Mass Rocks and Ancient Monastic Sites, on Sunday March 18th, at 2.30pm, to pray the rosary, and ask our deceased brethren, who risked their lives for the faith, to intercede for Ireland. Sign up a location at www.coastalrosaryireland.ie.

The Supreme Court’s decision that the unborn baby is not a child in constitutional law and that the only right he or she has in Ireland is the right to life in the 8th Amendment is incorrect at every level. It is an urgent call for heroic sacrifice and prayer both private and public.

Please find the Prayer Sheet for the Rosary at the Mass Rocks for Life and Faith here.

The following is a note about the importance of coming together at the places where our ancestors…. saints and holy souls prayed and sacrificed to pass on the faith to future generations.

In Ireland, North and South we are in a life and death struggle to protect life and preserve faith. Although this struggle has obvious political, social and especially philosophical dimensions, it is first and foremost a spiritual battle. “For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

Bearing this in mind, a lot of preparation has gone into the prayer sheet for the day.  We invoke the assistance of St Patrick and all the Irish saints and Holy Souls.  In Sacred Scripture we see the importance of placing our holy ancestors in faith before God, when asking for a great and undeserved Grace from Him.

Exodus 32:1-20  While Moses was on Mount Sinai receiving the 10 Commandments, the Israelites turned to idolatry.

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, ‘Go down now, because your people whom you brought out of Egypt have apostatised. They have been quick to leave the way I marked out for them; they have made themselves a calf of molten metal and have worshipped it and offered it sacrifice. “Here is your God, Israel,” they have cried “who brought you up from the land of Egypt!”’ the Lord said to Moses, ‘I can see how headstrong these people are! Leave me, now, my wrath shall blaze out against them and devour them; of you, however, I will make a great nation.’

But Moses pleaded with the Lord his God. ‘Lord,’ he said ‘why should your wrath blaze out against this people of yours whom you brought out of the land of Egypt with arm outstretched and mighty hand? Why let the Egyptians say, “Ah, it was in treachery that he brought them out, to do them to death in the mountains and wipe them off the face of the earth”? Leave your burning wrath; relent and do not bring this disaster on your people. Remember Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, your servants to whom by your own self you swore and made this promise: I will make your offspring as many as the stars of heaven, and all this land which I promised I will give to your descendants, and it shall be their heritage for ever.’ So the Lord relented and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened.” Another example is Daniel 3:25, 34-43

Another aspect of the prayer programme is the renewal of Ireland’s consecration to the Sacred Heart.  March 18th, Passion Sunday is the 145th anniversary of Ireland’s solemn consecration.

The programme includes an acceptance of Jesus as King of Ireland. For this we use the formula given to Rozalia Celak in an apparition approved by the Polish bishops. Rozalia will be beatified this year. Our Lord promised to spare Poland from the devastation of WWII if the consecration was made. It was not. However on the Feast of Christ the King 2016 the bishops of Poland with the country’s president made the solemn consecration declaring “Jesus King of Poland”.

Please come to one of the many prayer location and pray with us at 2:30pm, Sunday March 18. If you cannot get to a location please join us wherever you are.

In the Name of the Most Holy Trinity, through the intercession of Ireland’s saints, holy souls, the angels, Our Lady, St Joseph, Jesus King of Ireland will grant the great miracle of Life and Faith.
