Mindfulness Evenings with Anne O’Reilly @ Margaret Aylward Centre for Faith and Dialogue
Oct 17 @ 7:30 pm – Dec 12 @ 9:30 pm
Mindfulness Evenings with Anne O’Reilly @ Margaret Aylward Centre for Faith and Dialogue | County Dublin | Ireland

Slow Down. Take the mindful path back home.

In an increasingly busy and frantic world it is important to make time to come home to our own hearts. When we begin to slow down and pay attention it becomes easier to be still in the present moment.

In this series of classes participants will be introduced to the principles of mindfulness practice. We will learn how to follow the breath and allow it to anchor us in each moment. There will be opportunities to practise sitting and walking meditation and other gentle movement exercises. Guided meditation will be accompanied by instrumental music and sacred poetry. We will cultivate a sense of spacious awareness in an atmosphere of non judging and compassion.

The aim of this Tuesday evening course is to nurture compassion and loving kindness towards oneself, others and the natural world. The focus is on mindfulness as presence of heart and coming home to ourselves. It is suitable both for beginners and those already on the path. There is great support in meeting from week to week with the same group and learning to develop a practice that can be sustained when the classes are finished.

Mercy at the Shannon Mall- Friday – Dec 8
Dec 4 @ 11:23 am – 12:23 pm

Bishop Fintan Monahan, Bishop of Killaloe, will be among the 20 Priests present in Skycourt Shopping Centre, Shannon, for the third Mercy on The Mall day on Friday 8th December next.

From 1pm to 6pm, 20 Priests will make themselves available to shoppers and people in Skycourt who would like to avail of the opportunity for Confession, a chat or a blessing.

Mercy on The Mall first took place in Skycourt Shopping Centre in Shannon for the first time in 2015 at the start of the Jubilee Year of Mercy. The day proved so successful, that both Management and Priests were requested to organise a day again last year.     The same demand is there again this year from both shoppers and management who have received requests from shoppers for Confessions on the Mall for Christmas. The initiative comes from the call of Pope Francis for Priests to bring the gospel to the market place and for Priests to make themselves available to people who wish to avail of the sacrament or to make a connection with the Church.

For the past two years, all 20 Priests were kept engaged with shoppers. One woman who availed of the sacrament described her experience as “liberating”, another remarked that it was a “new beginning”.

Priests will be located at different locations in the Mall if people wish to engage with them. The School Choir from St. Conaire’s Primary School in Shannon will provide seasonal music and song.

‘How we killed God-a talk by David Quinn-Vienna Woods hotel, Cork @ Vienna Woods hotel
Dec 5 @ 8:00 pm

We are very pleased to invite you to our next talk which will be given by Iona Institute Director, David Quinn.

David will discuss how ‘Official Ireland’ is ruthlessly pushing all consideration of God to the margins of Irish life. Christians are allowed little or no place in public debate, and God is rarely spoken of in public any more. So far as Irish public life is concerned, we have effectively ‘killed’ God. Except we cannot do that of course, so we do the next best thing; we pretend he is ‘dead’.

David will talk about the consequences of this, about how it has played out in Irish life over the last twenty-five years, and what we can do about it. David will draw on his new book, also called ‘How we kill God (and other tales of modern Ireland)’, which is a selection of his columns from 1994 to the present. The book features a biographical interview.

David is currently a columnist with The Sunday Times and The Irish Catholic. He has previously been a columnist with The Irish Independent and The Sunday Business Post.

Persecuted Christians: an Advent evening of prayer-London @ Tyburn Convent
Dec 8 @ 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Persecuted Christians: an Advent evening of prayer and discernment.

  • Let not your heart be disturbed. Am I not here, who am your Mother? Do not grieve nor be disturbed by anything.” The Blessed Virgin Mary to Saint Juan Diego, December 1531.
  • Friday 08 December 2017 (Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary). 6:30-9:30 pm. Tyburn Convent, 8 Hyde Park Place, London W2 2L J (Marble Arch station). Free admission.
  • This event will be held in honour of The Divine Infancy and Our Lady of Guadalupe (feast day 12 December) as we contemplate the amazing events in 1531 that led to the conversion of millions to Christianity and the ending of a sadistic culture based on violence and death. In reverent anticipation of Our Saviour’s nativity, we will remember especially persecuted families, children, and the Unborn.
  • The event will include Mass, entrustment and intercessional prayers, what you can do to help persecuted Christians, and humble thanksgiving for the positive developments this year including the release of Fr Tom Uzuunnalil from captivity and degradation of IS (Daesh).
  • If you are unable to attend, you can still join in using our prayers and directions for concurrent events (includes special thanksgiving prayer).
  • …God sent his only-begotten Son into the world, so that we might live through Him. Whoever has confessed that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.” [1 John 4]
  • Please help us to publicise this event if you can; thank you.

Cisterian Vocations Weekend-Lismore @ St Mary's Abbey
Feb 9 @ 7:30 pm – Feb 11 @ 3:30 pm

Who we are

St Mary’s Abbey, Glencairn is the only Cistercian monastery for women in Ireland. Our monastery is located in the Blackwater Valley, about three miles upstream from Lismore, County Waterford.

At the heart of the monastic life is the search for God.  We seek God and follow Christ in a life of prayer and community, solitude and simplicity, work and hospitality.

We follow the Rule of St Benedict, an ancient source of monastic wisdom that continues to guide many people in search of an authentic spiritual path in today’s world.

Event

We invite women who are considering God’s call to join us for a weekend to get to know more about monastic way of life. Our life is one of witness in a life of prayer, work, community and contempaltion.

Meet a sister for a one to one chat about your vocation discernment and take some quiet time for an encounter with God.

Participants stay as our guests in our Abbey guesthouse, there is no cost for the weekend.  To those who are relying on public transport to travel to Glencairn from Dublin or Cork via Bus Eireann X8 we can offer a transport to the monastery if pre-arranged.

If you would like to join us for this Vocations Weekend, please contact Sr Sarah at 058 56168 Ext. 6 or email: [email protected] for more information.
