The main idea behind the conference is to allow those starting off in their professions as filmmakers and journalists to learn from those with a lot of experience and prestige, particularly in the context of professional integrity and ethics. It is also a good opportunity for anyone to learn what is happening in the media from those who are working at the coalface, and to network if that is of interest.

An eyewitness account of the persecution of Iraqi Christians by the Vicar of Baghad @ Johnstown parish church,
Nov 20 @ 7:00 am – 9:00 pm

An eyewitness account of the persecution of Iraqi Christians
by the Vicar of Baghad

Speaker: Canon Andrew White

Response: David Quinn

When: Sunday, November 20, 7pm-9pm

Where: Johnstown parish church, Church Road, Killiney

Canon Andrew White has been a leading advocate for persecuted Christians. From the UK he went to Iraq in 2003 and reopened St George’s church after the invasion of Iraq even though civil war raged and the diplomats and ex-pats who once made up the congregation no longer dared to go there. Iraqis came instead, and the congregation reached a peak of 6,500. They built a school, a clinic and food bank. Almost 2,000 of his parishioners have been killed, some because they refused to convert to Islam, others were killed in bomb explosions and four Alpha course leaders were killed when Christian material was found in their car. There used to be 1.5 million Christians in Iraq but now there are only 260,000. It is believed that Islamic State has put a huge price on Canon White’s head to anyone who will kill him. Please come and hear him give his eyewitness account next Sunday night.

How the West exports the ‘Culture of Death’ -Uju Ekeocha – Dublin 2 @ The Davenport hotel,
Nov 24 @ 8:00 pm

Invitation to talk

How the West exports the ‘Culture of Death’
Speaker: Uju  Ekeocha

When: Thursday, November 24 at 8pm

Where: The Davenport hotel, Dublin 2

We are pleased to announce that our next speaker will be Uju Ekeocha (pictured above), founder and head of Culture of Life Africa.

Culture of Life Africa describes itself as “an initiative dedicated to the promotion and propagation of the Gospel of Life in Africa through the dissemination of good information, sensitisation and education.”

Uju (short for Obianuju) will speak about how the West is exporting its culture of death to Africa and other parts of the world.

She will discuss how “the threat of the Culture of Death is now real and imminent as we are beginning to see the undeniable attempts to limit, suppress and even destroy the source of human life.”

She will describe how this is coming to Africa “in the form of population control measures being emphatically proposed, promoted and propagated from one nation to the next.”

Uju was born and raised in Nigeria. She has a BSc in Microbiology from the University of Nigeria and an MSc in Biomedical Science from the University of East London. She is currently living and working as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Canterbury, England.

If you would like to attend this important talk  and have not already done so, please email us on [email protected] or phone 01 6619 204.

Advent Triduum (5-9 Dec) @ Manresa
Dec 5 @ 8:00 pm – Dec 9 @ 9:00 am
Advent Triduum (5-9 Dec) @ Manresa | Dublin | County Dublin | Ireland

As the frenzy of the Christmas preparations comes to a climax, many people long for a few days’ peace and stillness, away from the mad rush. Our two Tridua here in Manresa offer just such an opportunity. Choose either the second or third week of Advent to spend some time with the seasonal themes. Centered on the themes of Advent and Christmas, and in an atmosphere of silent prayer and reflection, these days provide an opportunity for people to get in touch with the real meaning of the season and the real wonder of what we celebrate.

This year, our first Triduum will begin on the evening of Monday, 5 December, finishing with Mass and breakfast on the morning of Friday, 9 December. The second Triduum will take place a week later: beginning on Monday 12 December and ending on the morning of Friday 16 December.

A reflection will be offered each morning by a Director suggesting how the day’s prayer and silence might lead to a deeper appreciation of the God who comes to us. Afterwards the Triduum Director and members of the Manresa Team will be available for a personal meeting with those who wish. Daily Mass, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available. Early booking is recommended to ensure a place.

8-day Directed Retreat (07-16 Feb) @ Manresa
Feb 7 @ 7:00 pm – Feb 16 @ 10:00 am
8-day Directed Retreat (07-16 Feb) @ Manresa | Dublin | County Dublin | Ireland

The directed retreat is intended to create an environment where you can meet God intimately and discover that you are uniquely loved and called by God. The retreatant is offered the opportunity to meet with the director every day, to be accompanied their review of the prayer and reflection. ‘Directed’ or ‘individually guided’ retreats have become part of the core ministry of Manresa. There are several key factors in the directed retreat which help you on its journey of discovery: personal prayer, reflection, silence, daily meeting with a director and participation in the Eucharist. The retreat’s days of Individual guidance help you to recognise and attend to where God is in your life.
