By editor - 01 April, 2015

Walk of WitnessArchbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin will join his Church of Ireland counterpart, Archbishop Michael Jackson, for this year’s Walk of Witness through the streets of the capital on Good Friday.

The ecumenical Walk of Witness is now in its fourth year.

Together Archbishop Jackson and Archbishop Martin will carry a cross from Christ Church Cathedral to St Mary’s Pro Cathedral in an act of visible witness and joint prayer on one of the most holiest days in the Christian calendar.

The Walk of Witness will begin with people gathering at Christ Church Cathedral at 7pm for a short prayer service at 7.15pm. The walk will set off from the cathedral at 7.30pm.

People of all traditions are invited to join Archbishops Martin and Jackson as they journey across the city presenting a public sign of the Churches’ work and witness together to the wider community.

The Archbishops will jointly carry a Taizé Cross as they lead the procession to St Mary’s Pro Cathedral on Marlborough Street where they will join a Taizé prayer service around the cross.

The walk covers a distance of approximately two kms.

Earlier on Good Friday, Archbishop Martin will lead the Way of the Cross in Dublin’s Phoenix Park at 12pm.

Along the stages of the Way of the Cross, the Archbishop will give meditations on the Passion of Jesus while music will be provided by the choir of Communion and Liberation, the group that organises the event.
