Gospel: Luke 2:53
He has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty.
Reflection: Tears of God
God suffers in the suffering of people who are hungry and who suffer in other ways. The prophets spoke about the tears of God when God looked at our world and saw the sufferings of violence and of war, of innocent people being victimised in many ways. Jesus spoke of seeing crowds of people like sheep without a shepherd, and going wrong. This pains God and he wants to save us.
God suffers when we suffer, even though we don’t know what it means that God suffers. But he suffered enough that his tears were not crocodile tears — these were tears of action to send into the world Jesus, Son of God, son of Mary, to save us from the ruin we can bring on ourselves.
God sent his Son to suffer for us so that we would not need to suffer and still we allow , even inflict pain on others.
Prayer:
Help us, Lord God, to delay no longer,
in our care for others
and our efforts to build a better world wher no one suffers.
Please offer a prayer today for :
the millions of children who are hungry throughout the world.
