Now has the Son of Man been glorified and in him God has been glorified. (Jn 13:31)
Prayer for the week Jesus, in death you became like us to the end, and in resurrection you point the way to what we will be. In bad times give us confidence and faith, in good times give us hope and joy, and in all times give us love, for you are love and hope from God. Amen.
Reflection for the day In the moment of betrayal Jesus gets some sense of being glorified and of God being glorified. Betrayal was real, and he felt in his bones and his heart the let-down of a disciple, one of the group he had called friends. In being willing to do what is right, to follow through on convictions and good commitments, in losing oneself in loving the other, God is glorified. Much love, commitment and right living calls for courage; to act where there is danger or risk to body or to soul or to life. Jesus was a man who followed through on what God ‘agrees’ is right, good and loving. In our living in a similar fashion, God is glorified; and in the depths of our souls we know the joy of what we might call a ‘good conscience’ – simply knowing that we are living out what we know to be right and true.
