A joyful day of celebration
Dear Father, What has happened to Corpus Christi? When I was young it was a beautiful Feast-day. It was always a Thursday and a Holy Day of Obligation so we had a free day from school, giving us a chance to wear our First Communion dresses. As I recall it, the procession always seemed to be bathed in sunshine surrounded with a pleasant smell of incense and lovely hymns as we spread petals before the Blessed Sacrament. Julie. What is asked of me?
Patrick D. writes: 'But I say this to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you' (Mt. 5:44). I find this demand of Our Blessed Lord very, very hard to follow. I am tired of people walking over me. The more civil and subservient I am to them, the more this happens. So do I really have to pander to people to be a proper Christian? The Table of the Lord
Winnie writes: "Dear Father, My adult son and daughter no longer attend the Sacraments. At a recent wedding they both received Holy Communion without prior Confession. I know the Church teaches that one should make a good confession before receiving Holy Communion but isn't everybody welcome at the table of the Lord, no matter what state their life is in? Patron saint of grandmothers
Jennifer writes: Many grandmothers pray to St Ann for their grandchildren but a friend of mine is reluctant to do so. She said to me, 'My own mother had a great devotion to St Ann but St Ann sent her a lot of crosses.' I didn't know how to answer her. Fr Bernard McGuckian SJ writes in reply.
