Dublin, Ireland
Contact Details
Event Description
This workshop will focus mainly on the following topics: 1. Dreams and Scripture 2. Dreams and Spirituality 3. The Psychology of Dreams 4. Dreams and Symbols 5. Practical Ways to Work with Dreams.
Dreams reveal to us nightly the voices of our desires for wholeness and for true spiritual integrity.
If we show interest in them and begin to pay them some attention, they can become our closest allies in our search for spiritual growth and spiritual healing.
Dreams can be an essential part of our spiritual discernment. They can give us insights into the deepest part of our soul. Dreams can profoundly reframe questions for us and give us access to the unconscious as we seek to make creative decisions in our lives.
To ignore our dreams is to ignore a proven, ancient and scriptural pathway to the God who resides within.
PRESENTER: Denis is a Christian Brother in St. Mary’s Province of the Christian Brothers in Ireland. He has qualifications in education, theology, spirituality, counselling and spiritual direction. He has long been interested in dreamwork and in the Enneagram as tools that can be used for spiritual growth. He trained as a presenter of the Enneagram with Patrick O’Leary, who is regarded as one of the foremost experts in the theory. Denis has been interested in adult education generally for almost thirty years and over that period has given talks and workshops on a wide variety of personal development and spiritual development topics.

Event Description
Trecking the Wilderness: Contemplation of a New Monastic Way
In an age of profound suffering and radical transformation, the monastic heart calls us to establish a center of peace and nonviolence in our own souls. As the ancients before us, our souls cry out for a way of life devoted to the sacred, in the timeless solitude and wisdom of monastic consciousness. Yet indebted as we are to ancient traditions of monasticism, the contemporary pilgrim must track a new wilderness, in order to heal archetypes of religious consciousness and to deepen contemplative living.
In this day of lectures, reflection and discussion, we will consider what it means to be a new monk, one who seeks a life devoted to God outside the traditional monastic enclosure. How does new global consciousness and multi-religious belonging affect and transform the monastic vocation? What constitutes a formation process of a new monastic way; what are its charism, theological foundation, and vows? How does one deepen the mystical process toward transformation? Such questions are crucial to the heart of contemplation and to the embodiment of a new monasticism fully integral with the flourishing of creation.
Speakers is: Dr Beverly Lanzetta who has extensive career in studying global spirituality for more than 30 years. She received her Ph.D. in historical theology and contemporary religious thought from Fordham University in 1988. She has served as professor at Grinnell College, Prescott College, and Villanova University.
date: Saturday, 5th June: 10.30 - 16.30
cost €45; pre-booking required
The challenge of being modern, uncloaked monks consists in the attempt to integrate "what every person ought to be" into the wider social and personal circle of our lives. the contemporary seeker desires to return to the original simplicity of the contemplative ideal, its respect for silence and solitude. As we push open the monastic doors we discover that these ancient practices can assist us in integrating all aspects of contemporary life--work, family, friendship, and sexuality--into the holy dimension of being.
