Pentecost Sunday: Christ's Body on Earth
Pentecost_think

The Spirit of truth who issues from the father,
He will be my witness
And you too will be my witnesses.
John 15: 26, 27

Jesus'  life and teaching provided visible, touchable evidence of a loving  God, who wanted to share himself with us in a relationship of mutual love and loyalty. Jesus made God's love a transforming reality in the lives of those he encountered:  he met them, they changed within and their lives were never the same again.

The YES of our baptism is the beginning of a daily YES to living like Jesus; it invites us to become visible, touchable evidence of the presence and action of a loving God in the world. We are helped; the Spirit shares with us everything we need to become as St Paul puts it  "Christ's Body": our hands, Christ's hands; our hearts, his heart; Christ loving and caring for others through us.

Hard to believe? Use St Paul's tips for spotting the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5); remember the Spirit reaches into the ordinary; don't dismiss the small tasks done daily and with love: the kindness of a cup of tea; the patience of listening to a long phone call; the self-control needed to survive a tiring day; the generosity in shopping for an elderly neighbour; the gentleness of being there when words do not suffice; the faithfulness to a million mundane daily tasks.

Holy Spirit within us: enabling us to be signs of the presence and action of a loving God. Drawing people closer to God. Changing Us. Changing our World. Never the same again.
