The Lérins Islands (in French les Îles de Lérins) are a group of four Mediterranean islands off the French Riviera, near Cannes, where Saint Honoratus founded a monastery around the year 410 and where Saint Patrick is said to have studied in the fifth century. A Cistercian community today lives in a monastery built during the nineteenth century. St Vincent was a monk there at the start of the fourth century and is the author of a work called the "Commonitorium". Patrick Duffy writes a brief note on him and his work.

St Bede was a monk, an historian and a scholar whose delight it was to impart to others something of his great knowledge, and and he did so with a humility and an ease that endeared him to his fellow monks. St Simon Stock is associated with the brown scapular of the Carmelite order. A native of Kent, who had an experience of the hermit and community life of a group of pilgrims and/or Crusaders on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land, he brought that experience back to Europe. Patrick Duffy tells his story.

David was the youngest son of King Malcolm III (Canmore) of Scotland and his wife Margaret who is herself a saint (See 16th November). He contributed enormously to setting up religious and civilising institutions in Scotland. Patrick Duffy tells his story.
